Adolf Placzek Fellowship
Preservation and Special Projects
The New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation, in conjunction with the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, is pleased to announce a fellowship position for Summer 2018. This paid fellowship is an eight-week position at the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and is open to graduate degree candidates in historic preservation, architecture, architectural history or a related field.
The fellow will have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the Commission’s work. Specific responsibilities may vary, but the fellow will primarily support the work of the Preservation Department. In particular, the fellow will be assigned tasks related to producing an updated Permit Application Guide, which will explain LPC’s proposed rules and offer instructions on how to file a complete application that includes all of the required materials. Working under the guidance of preservation staff, the fellow will assist with putting the proposed rules into a user-friendly, graphically rich, format. Through this project the fellow will gain hands-on understanding of LPC Rules and procedures, industry practices, and graphic design development experience, with the nation’s premier municipal historic preservation agency.
The 8 week fellowship pays $4,000, commences in June, and requires a commitment of 35 hours per week. Proficiency in CAD and desktop photo-editing required.
