NEW CLASS! – LSIS 5830 :: METADATA APPLICATIONS FOR DIGITAL LIBRARIES
”LSIS 5830 :: METADATA APPLICATIONS FOR DIGITAL LIBRARIES
This course will provide a foundational understanding of metadata for digital libraries and real world application of metadata. Students will learn about metadata concepts, and engage in related hands on assignments that will survey current trends that metadata practitioners are expected to know. Students will also be asked to think critically about the impact of metadata and the role it plays in perpetuating structures of power in our libraries.”
The instructor, Sonoe Nakasone, is Lead Librarian for Metadata Technologies at North Carolina State University Libraries. She has also work at UNC Chapel Hill, DC Public Library, and the Smithsonian Institution. Sonoe’s work focuses on current metadata trends including linked data, metadata for research data, and using programatic solutions for traditional metadata issues.
