BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Meloche has been a Book Mobile Driver, a Branch Librarian, a Deputy Chief Librarian, a Systems Librarian, and his final professional position was as a Senior Subject Librarian, with the University of Sydney’s, Fisher Library, Sydney Australia, prior to working as an academic.

As an academic, he has worked at the University of Technology, Sydney, The University of Wollongong, and the State University of New York, University at Buffalo, before joining the faculty at North Carolina Central University.

His research interest focuses on Information Seeking Activities, and this has led to studies in Health, Management, and Collaboration. His first book, called Introductory CD Rom Searching: The Key to Effective Ondisc Searching, was written to assist end-users searching CD-ROM databases.
Dr. Meloche is an active researcher who applies Q Methodology and Activity Theory predominantly in the conduct of his research. In addition to his own research, Dr. Meloche has supervised and co-supervised several PhD Students while at the University of Wollongong, (UOW).Dr. Meloche worked with the Schools’ of Information Systems, Management & Marketing, while at UOW.One of his PhD students achieved a University award for her work using play as a metaphor to support collaboration.

He was recognized in 2007, for his research, with a New Researcher Award by the University of Wollongong. His scholarship has also been recognized with a best paper award from the IEEE, UBICOMM 2008 conference for his paper; ICT devices as Ubiquitous Tools for Information Seeking Activity, València Spain. His service activities have included being the Secretary to the International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity (ISSSS), followed by being the ISSSS’s Vice President 2009-2010, and its President 2010-2011.

Dr. Meloche has considerable, international experience having worked in Canada and Australia. He has also been a visiting Scholar at Kansai University in Japan (2007) and he has had an ongoing research relationship with the Department of Library and Information Studies at Peking University in Beijing, China since 1997. His research has extended to a number of international venues in Europe, Russia, Asia, North America, and Oceania.
