Miss Miriam Ricks (MLS 1955) Receives School's First Distinguished Alumna Award

[Dr. Ankem] Miss Miriam Ricks (MLS 1955) was honored at the Spring 2007 graduation ceremony with the first Distinguished Alumna Award to be given by the NCCU School of Library and Information Sciences.

Miss Miriam Gwinette Ricks is a retired Assistant Professor and Director of the Early Learning Resource Center in the School of Library and Information Sciences at North Carolina Central University. Miss Ricks was employed from September 1973 until August 31, 1993.

She received her A.B. in English, Biology, in 1948 from Bennett College, the MSLS from North Carolina College at Durham (NCCU) in 1955 and a C.A.S. in 1973 from the University of Denver, Colorado.

Miss Ricks’ areas of expertise in library education include Children’s services, Educational media; School library management and administration; Young adult services; Supervision; The adult learner; and Program planning. Courses taught by Miss Ricks include: Administration of the School Media Center, Early Childhood Resources and Services I and II, and Resources and Services for Youth I.
