Paid Internship Opportunity in Local Special Library
North Carolina Biotechnology Center
Part–time temporary position
Pay rate: $14.00 /hour
The NC Biotechnology Center Library seeks a current library school student to work 15-20 hours per week. Hours are to be worked at NCBiotech between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The specific time of the shift is flexible. The position will begin in October 2015.
The NCBiotech Library is a special library located in Research Triangle Park. While some traditional library tasks are still performed, most tasks are not traditional. This is an excellent opportunity to be a part of a vibrant, well-supported library team.
The Library Assistant will have the opportunity to gain experience in a number of different areas.
A sample of specific ongoing tasks includes:
- Processing new materials
- Maintaining data in an intricate client relationship management system
- Performing article delivery using DOCLINE
Additional potential projects may include:
- Teaching a short class to staff on areas of expertise in information management, software, or social media
- Cataloging physical and virtual items in our online system
- Assisting with basic research projects
- Enhancing metadata associated with biotechnology-related assets in North Carolina
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to give full attention to details
- Is customer-oriented, friendly and approachable
- Has strong verbal and oral communication skills
- Understands data integrity and how to achieve it
- Extremely comfortable with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Outlook
- Experience with relational databases, and/or contact management software

UVA Clinical Informationist Position
The University of Virginia Health Sciences Library seeks a clinical informationist passionate about service. This position will support clinical departments’ evidence-based practice needs through information discovery, instruction, and consultation. This position is also expected to expand traditional clinical support by developing new services that align with the Health System’s commitment to becoming the safest place to work and receive care. The clinical informationist will work with clinical teams to establish and evaluate best practice standards, conduct grey literature searches, and participate in interpretation and analysis. Candidates need not have experience in all areas, just a willingness to learn.
The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in either Library Science (ALA accredited), Public Health, Nursing, or other master’s degree combined with relevant work experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have a familiarity with quality improvement methods, scientific methodologies, or health information resources.

The Henry Madden Library seeks a creative, flexible and public service oriented individual to join our faculty in developing and providing user-focused library services that support teaching, research, and student success. This full-time, tenure-track librarian will serve as liaison to the Kremen School of Education and Human Development including the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, the Graduate Studies Program and will lead efforts to support and improve graduate student success.
Primary responsibilities include: collaborating with colleagues in the development and provision of a broad range of activities to outreach and engage designated colleges and departments; teaching information literacy concepts to undergraduates and graduate students; designing and preparing outreach and instructional materials; providing in person and online research assistance in a range of disciplines; participating in faculty governance, committees, library initiatives and ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
